Importing tracks and large monitored folders

Hi everyone,

We currently use Monitored Folders to import new songs that are uploaded by presenters remotely.

The current configuration is:

  • Each remote presenter has access to Remote Voicetracking in the browser for their show
  • Each presenter has their own local folder and track group on the PlayIt machine
  • Each presenter has their own folder in Dropbox for uploads
  • New uploads to their Dropbox folder are moved to their folder on the PC, and then appear in their track group

For example: Dropbox\Uploads\Country Show uploads are moved automatically to D:\Shows\Country Show. D:\Shows is a monitored folder, and those tracks are added to the Country Show filtered track group. The presenter can see all their Country Show songs in one place and there's no potential to accidentally add them to other groups.

This provides for giving remote presenters access to upload music and voicetrack their hours, without providing permissions to upload music to the track groups which are used for the playout log and scheduling.

Now the monitored folder has grown quite large and is no longer updating, or gets stuck on a file which can't be imported and prevents other uploads from being processed.

Has anyone come across this and adopted a better way of doing this?

We could provide access to Remote Management > Tracks > Files on Server, but it's not possible to restrict track groups to particular users in the same way we can restrict hours.

I looked at the API to see if there was a way to script importing the tracks from folders into groups instead of using a monitored folder, but I don't think it's possible?

Or would it simply be better to ask presenters to occasionally move their files into a separate, non monitored folder and import them from there manually? So a monitored folder for new tracks, and normally imported tracks for existing tracks - then every few weeks cut and paste the tracks?

I would be very grateful for any ideas! Thanks,

Jim
