Meeting DMCA album repeat requirements

With our primary listener base in the US, we have to conform to DMCA regulations regarding the repeating of tracks by the same artist or from the same album. The requirement is as follows:

  1. Sound Recording Performance Complement. A Webcaster must comply with the “sound recording performance complement,” which prohibits a Webcaster from transmitting, within any given three hour period:
    (A) more than three different songs from the same album, with no more than two such songs transmitted consecutively.
    (B) more than four different songs by the same artist or compilation, with no more than three such songs transmitted consecutively.
The second of these is a simple application of a Playout Policy implementation. "Do not play the same artist for at least 1 hour" is entirely sufficient to nail it with room to spare.

What is the solution regarding album repeats, however? Is this currently possible? It would appear that PI doesn't presently do a great deal with albums. It might be an idea to include this capability in a future release as an additional line in the Playout Policy config.

Thanks!

Hi Richard,

It is not currently possible to configure album separation rules. A feature that is planned for the future will allow separation rules on any field on a track.
